Ancient Cambodia - Black and White Series
We truly apologise to our readers for the long awaited updates from our blog.
We are back from our recent trip to Cambodia and Alex had prepared a Black and White Series of Siem Reap, Cambodia. While we were mesmerised by the ancient arts of the Khmer ppl, we also shared some time looking at the daily lives of Cambodian ppl living by the Tonle Sap Lake... It was definately an eye opener and a lifetime oppurtunity for us to see the ruins before all is gone.
Most of the ruins have been restored... to preserve what's once a glorious empire.

Highlights : Aaron and Sharon
It was a privilage to be taking photos for my friend, Sharon and her partner, Aaron.
This couple has been very supportive to Pixous and has given us alot of motivation to dream big. Sharon, is also the proud owner of Greeen Bananas.
She was so excited about the shoot and was so prepared that we started feeling nervous instead :D But after some warm up with the couple, it was click click click all the way... Aaron and Sharon were such naturals in front of the camera....
Manage to process some Sneak Peaks, here are some of our favs... Stay tune for the Full album soon.
Also available at facebook album : Aaron and Sharon

We are FRAMED!!

Looking at Aaron's expression just makes me smile...

Just the Two of Us~

Highlights: Kenneth & Ting
A weekend with Kenneth and Ting, a very sporting, young, hyper couple. It was humid, shooting under the heat was a challenge... We scouted a couple of sites in town in the heart of Penang and manage to shoot some urban shots with the young couple :)

After the shooting session, we stop by weld quay to have a thirst quenching "ai yin pin" by the road side... ah.... satisfaction :D
Here are some of the lovely shots to share.

Photo Talk : Gear Matters??
There's has been many times we were questioned by friends how are gears important in getting good pictures. In my honest opinion, having gears will help produce good quality pictures, but at the end of the day, it is nothing more than just another machine.
It is the photographer who will be controlling the gear, composing and deciding what settings should be, where the subject should be placed, considering the factors to bring the best out of the photos. To make sure the gears are used to it's fullest potential depends on the person who is using it.
Having a set of pro brushes and a pallete of colours, but without a painter, is just another tool. But a painter with any brush or paint can make art happen.
Camera don't take pictures, photographers do.
An interesting article from Ken Rockwell...

We may not have the top notch body or lens but love them just as much...
Ok now let's have a group photo boys... Say Cheese!!
Love 'em all...

Testing out the new lens
Recently, we welcome 2 lens into our pixous family.
The small, lightweight, superbokeh lens.... 35 mm, F2 and the sleek, medium sized, macro lens : 60mm; f2.8.
We had some weekend fun with the lens when one of our friend invited us for a shooting session at G-hotel... We got some hot shots from the couple... her partner was quite shy during the shoot... and requested that his face was not revealed, so the bokeh was well utilised that day... :)
Some sharing of the shots...
p.s : Shots that don't reveal the face of the models were intentional

Bride Tips : What Wedding Cake symbolise...
I have always wondered, if the cake is a fake, why do ppl still cut it during weddings? What is the significance of the cake cutting ceremony? Is there a taboo behind this simple, short moment of slicing? Ok maybe that didn't sound right... :)Today, I found out the true meaning, why the newly weded couple cuts the nicely decorated wedding cake. This use to be a tradition during the olden days... it symbolises the first thing the couple do together as husband and wife. The first time the couple shares food as husband and wife with their families and friends. The first bite from the cake symbolises a new family union formed...
Tradition generally requires that the first cut of the cake be performed by bride and groom together, often with a ceremonial knife or even a sword. An older, archaic tradition had the bride serve all portions to the groom's family as a symbolic transfer of her household labor from her family to the groom's family.
For some, a fruit cake is usually the prefered choice. Being a dry cake, a portion of the wedding cake is usually kept, frozen and preserved, to be eaten on their first anniversary or the birth of their firstborn, signifying the love and the union and to remind them of that one day, when they were pronounced man and wife.
So honestly, to me i love looking at the lovely decorations on the cake, the art of the cake itself is captivating...

Chapter 4 : Bali Adventure

We recently came back from an adventurous trip from Bali. The experience we had was really crazy. All this while all we hear about Bali is, it's beatiful, the sea, the sun, the art... the romance...
Now, let me share with you the true Bali experience that we had. First and foremost of course is lessons learnt.
Lesson No. 1 : DO NOT travel to unknown places or suburbs after sundown. Lights are really scarce during night time unless you are in town areas such as KUTA.
Lesson No. 2 : Make sure your rental car brakes are working. Going to great places like Jatiluwih for paddy fields and Mount Batur for a hot spring bath, has it's ups and downs. And i mean it. The roads are steep for some and bumpy for most.
Lesson No. 3 : DO NOT look at the road side sellers in the eyes if you are softhearted. It will make you fall for it and end up buying too many things (buy from one and ten others come to you) :D just be prepared.
What I heart about Bali?
The breathtaking view of paddy field terraces. The smell of the fragrant rice when you take a deep breath... ah...

Shopping in markets. Artistic items everywhere...Colors, carvings, paintings, abstracts... Too many things, too little time... a true art haven
Lakeview restaurant/hotel. Sunrise, mist, fogs, cool breeze, hot cup of tea... indescribable.
SPA!! Being pampered by a SPA therapy session is true indulgence. After longs walks, nothing beats a great SPA.
Sincerely,
Pixous
